Research was conducted by Counterpoint Research, a Hong Kong firm that deals with tech market research studies; based on the data they got, Samsung is now in the first place, holding 28.8 percent of total phones sold in the U.S., in March, with Apple falling to the second place, holding "just" 23 percent of the market share.
Apple Inc. has been dethroned by Samsung again in the all-important USA handset market. It took Samsung 11 months to regain the top spot in the U.S. market after losing it to rival Apple in April a year ago. Apple, on the other hand, was more than 5% away at 23%.
The new Galaxy S7 family has been the driving force behind Samsung's rise back to the top as Apple tries to hang on with the "S" iteration of the iPhone 6.
ZTE is now in fourth place with 6.6 precent market share, while Alcatel is in fifth place with 4.5 percent. In the U.S. alone, this was a 20% improvement from the performance of its predecessor, the Galaxy S6. The South Korean company's lead was also credited to slow sales of the new iPhone 6s. It has been no secret that the trend for iPhone sales has been going down recently.
And yet, while Samsung sells more phones, Apple remains the king in extracting profit from the smartphone market -which after all, is what really matters the most.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 was apparently more well-received in the United States and Europe than its predecessor.
This is the first time in 13 years that Apple's revenues have sunk this low.
Samsung can be expected to get a clear run through the next few months. This is a bit higher than their estimate of $42.08 billion. The Galaxy S6 Edge rose one notch to seventh in April from eighth in March. The S7 trend does not show any signs of stopping anytime soon though.
