Apple Loses Top Spot to Samsung in US Smartphone Market

Apple Loses Top Spot to Samsung in US Smartphone Market

The last time Samsung outpaced Apple was 11 months ago, but now thanks to strong sales of the Galaxy S7, the company is again leading.

According to stats from Counterpoint Research, March saw Samsung take 28.8 percent of the US Market, while Apple slid down to 23 percent.

BusinessKorea reported the Counterpoint Research market share figures for Samsung in the United States, noting the company in March accounted for 28.8 percent of the US market in terms of smartphone sales. Others take inspiration from previous products created by Apple, such as the Apple Watch or the iPhone 6S. The new Galaxy S7 devices have helped the Korean firm to win back the top slot.

LG is third with 17.1% market share and is increasingly gaining on Apple. In the United States alone, this was a 20% improvement from the performance of its predecessor, the Galaxy S6.

And yet, while Samsung sells more phones, Apple remains the king in extracting profit from the smartphone market -which after all, is what really matters the most.

Apple's results didn't include sales of its new iPhone SE, the company's newest iPhone that starts at $399 and features a 4-inch screen.

But on a more compelling note, the improved performance of the Galaxy S7 globally has already made its impact felt in Samsung's pockets.

Following the first reported drop in Apple revenues since 2003, this year, Apple is under pressure to perform.

Samsung can be expected to get a clear run through the next few months.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge were launched earlier than the usual and this may be a reason for the rise in Samsung's first quarter profit. According to Samsung, the demand for it is so high that they are barely able to keep up with the demands.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 (S820) Review

This year has been difficult for smartphones, which is a bit of a paradox when you consider just how much better things have gotten compared to last year. With Snapdragon 820, 650, 652, and 625 we've finally moved past the shadow of the Snapdragon 810, 808, and 617/615. While there were Android devices that shipped with the Exynos 7420, they were often paired with a modem that was not necessarily the most power efficient. Despite all of this, there seems to be a general disappointment with smartphones. People are increasingly finding it hard to justify phones like the HTC 10 or Galaxy S7 with competition from OnePlus, Xiaomi, and even Apple with their iPhone SE. In this context the Galaxy Note7 brings much of the flavor of the Galaxy S7 edge, but blends it with the S-Pen of the Note line and a few new features like the iris scanner. If you were paying attention to the industry with the launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5, it's very much more of the same rather than the m
