ALTADENA — Investigators on Tuesday asked for the public's help in identifying the man who pretended to be a customer then stole a Samsung Galaxy smartphone worth $792 from a local store last month.

Deputies said a man entered the Verizon Wireless store at 2230 Lincoln Ave. around 9 p.m. on April 5 and asked about cell-phone plans.

As the employee retrieved a brochure, deputies said the man snatched a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on display and ran out the door.

Sgt. Joel Nebel said the man has not been tied to other thefts.

The suspect is described as a Latino with short dark hair, a goatee, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 160 to 180 pounds. He wore a blue jacket, white shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information on suspect or the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Altadena Station at 626-798-1131.
