Samsung Galaxy S7 Home Buttons Easily Scratched While These Apps Help Users Get More

With the Samsung Galaxy S7 released to rave reviews by critics and users alike, Samsung seems to be back on top with what has become one of the best smartphones in recent times. Every smartphone has its problems though, and the Galaxy S7 is no exception. Users have discovered that the home buttons scratch easily. International Business Times reported that both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge both had a problem with the home buttons being prone to heavy scratches. Although the home button is prone to the deep scratches, the area around the screen doesn't attract these same types of scratches. The material used to make the home buttons isn't very durable and doesn't withstand surface contacts very well. While the people at Phone Arena discovered this issue and pointed it out, some users have noticed it and complained about it too. Samsung is, however using a different type of glass material for other parts of its device. Home button scratches reveal chink in the

Reliance Jio's Lyf becomes fifth largest smartphone player: Counterpoint Research

NEW DELHI: Reliance Retail's handset brand - Lyf - has emerged as India's fifth largest smartphone player in its first quarter since launch, creating a flutter in the world's fastest growing smartphone market which is led by Samsung. According to data from Counterpoint Research, Lyf cornered a 7% share of the smartphone market in the first quarter of the year, on the back of high demand for 4G LTE phones in India where two of three smartphones shipped supported the high speed broadband services. "In first quarter of its inception, Lyf instantly climbed to become one of the top five smartphone brands in India in terms of shipment volumes," Tarun Pathak, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint said. Lyf jumped to the second spot in the category of phones supporting 4G. The research firm though added that the strong shipment was more of 'channel filling' and the actual sell-through or sales to end customers, will happen in April to June period as the operator starts f

Smartphone Shipments Decline; Apple, Samsung Lead Retreat

Samsung the biggest rival to Apple shipped over 79 million smartphones during the first three months of 2016, which was down 4% from its 82.7 million for the first quarter past year, said research firm Strategy Analytics. There was aforementioned decline in China, which was the first such drop that the country had seen in 6 years, but global smartphone shipments had already been slowing down considerably. "It is the first time ever since the modern smartphone market began in 1996 that global shipments have shrunk on an annualized basis", said Strategy Analytics director Linda Sui. While a drop in sales in iPhones is a significant setback for Apple's image, Juniper attributes the decline in sales to a "larger than expected success" of the iPhone 6 in 2015. Samsung remained the leader in the worldwide smartphone market despite a year-over-year decline of 0.6pc in shipments. Several vendors without a strong base in China are also suffering. Microsoft ha

Smartphone Market Feels the Squeeze

April 28, 2016 8:00 a.m. ET SEOUL—Earnings reports this week may toll the bell for the decadelong smartphone bonanza. Samsung Electronics Co. SSNHZ 0.00 % , the world's biggest smartphone maker by shipments, reported strong mobile-profit gains Thursday—but goosed the results by pushing up the release of a new flagship model. Also Thursday, crosstown rival LG Electronics Inc. 066570 0.00 % reported the third straight quarterly loss for its mobile division. Even Apple Inc., AAPL -1.56 % the world's most profitable smartphone maker by a wide margin, earlier this week reported an earnings drop from a year earlier and its first revenue decline in 13 years as iPhone sales turned sluggish. LG is counting on its new flagship G5 smartphone, which went on sale e

Samsung Galaxy Note 6: Here's what the rumours have to say

However, Samsung took the edges to the other flagship - the Galaxy S series and introduced curved screens on both sides starting with Galaxy S6 edge. Under its hood, the Note 6 is expected to run on Qualcomm's next (albeit still unannounced and unofficial) chipset, the Snapdragon 823. While the rumors started from the amount of RAM in the upcoming successor of the Galaxy Note5, we now have a couple of more speculations at hand that are very promising and might turn out to be true. The reports also suggested that Note 6 could feature a 5.8-inch screen with QHD resolution, similar to the Note 5. "The other interesting feature in this leak is the battery size of the Galaxy Note 6", reported Techno Buffalo. Now a new smartphone with code name SM-C7000, expected to be called Samsung Galaxy C7 is imported to India for testing goal. Galaxy Note 5 only has 3000 mAh battery and Samsung is eyeing to improve Galaxy Note 6, Indian Express added. However, it is not yet sure if Sams

Samsung remains smartphone leader as Apple struggles

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge helped Samsung retain first place in the global smartphone market. Josh Miller/CNET Samsung saw a slight dip in smartphone shipments last quarter but was still top dog thanks to demand for its Galaxy S7 lineup. For the first quarter of 2016, Samsung shipped 81.9 million phones, down slightly from 82.4 million in the same quarter last year, research firm IDC said on Wednesday. The decline would've been larger if not for the success of Samsung's new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The new Galaxy phones "sold vigorously" during March, according to IDC, helped by promotions from wireless carriers. Apple saw a larger drop in smartphone sales, to 51.2 million last quarter from 61.2 million in the same period in 2015. The iPhone maker was hit by its first year-over-year descent in smartphone shipments as the lack of new features on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus may have dissua

According to a report from Forbes, Samsung is reportedly working on two designs for the upcoming phablet, with one having a flat screen and the other one having a curved edge screen. This is certainly similar to what they have done with the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, which offer consumers two design options t

Today we want to take a look at everything we know so far about Samsung's plans for current Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners. This also takes a look at some important details regarding the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, two devices that are starting to ship out to buyers in the United States. Samsung Galaxy Note 6 Shaping Up To Everyone’s Dream Phone

Samsung still needs a killer phone that can bring it back it smartphone superstar status but that did not happen with the Galaxy Note 5. HTC 10 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7

The two best smartphones of 2016 (so far) are the HTC 10 and Samsung Galaxy S7 (though we're also lumping the Galaxy S7 edge, not pictured in this comparison, into Samsung's side of that conversation). These phones make for a tough decision, especially when you consider the HTC 10's intangibles that don't necessarily show up in specs sheets or features lists. Nonetheless, let's see how their features and specs line up. Size There aren't any big differences in terms of chassis size, despite the HTC 10's bigger screen (more on that in a minute), though the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 13 percent thinner. Weight No big differences here either, with the HTC 10 weighing about 6 percent heavier than the Galaxy S7. Build The HTC 10, like its predecessors, still has an aluminum unibody build, though it adds that striking chamfered edge this time around. The Galaxy S7, like its 2015 predecessor, has a glass and aluminum construction. Colors We're lo

Samsung Galaxy Note 6 could have curved screen and huge battery

[Photo by Daryl Deino] The 3,600 mAh battery on Samsung's S7 Edge is already outstanding and power users have not experienced any problems getting through the day without having to recharge their phones. The HTC 10 has already gone up for pre-order in many regions around the world including the USA and the United Kingdom, and Australian residents apparently won't have to wait too long to get their hands on the device either, if a report coming out of the country is anything to go by. Richard wrote a piece about this awhile ago, speculating on why Samsung would include such a huge amount of RAM, with reference to Samsung's dummy laptop patent and Google's ongoing plans to bring Chrome OS into Android - I Have A Theory About ChromeOS And The Galaxy Note 6. When the update arrives to either phone, make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi signal before beginning the updating process. The HTC 10 also provides support for Android's new adoptable storage. A se

According To Analyst Firm TrendForce, Samsung Shipped Twice As Many Smartphones In Q1 2016 Than Apple

When it comes to analyst firms, there are very few that I trust and even then, I rather look at all of their numbers and compare them together to get a better picture of the global smartphone market. TrendForce hasn't been on my radar — it could be very accurate, it could be all over the place. So I am going to tell you to take its report and numbers with a grain of salt, although the results couldn't be that far off. So, according to TrendForce, Samsung shipped twice as many smartphones in Q1 2016 as Apple. I'll give you a few seconds to master your shock face and then a couple of minutes to cool off after screaming and celebrating / revolting and breaking everything around. Depends where you fall on the love/hate scale of either companies. But come to think of it, that trend makes some sense, although the difference is a little larger than expected. Apple is on its follow-up quarter for a reiterated phone that looks similar to last year's, whereas Sams

Video chat with a Samsung rep to troubleshoot your Galaxy S7

Juan Garzón/CNET Learning how to use any new device, or troubleshooting an issue on your smartphone can be a frustrating experience. Sure, you can call or text the tech expert in your family and ask for help for the umpteenth time, or if you own a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, you can video chat with Samsung support directly from your device. Using the Samsung+ app, not only will you be able to see and hear the support representative, but he or she will -- with your permission -- be able to take control of your device and illustrate how to change your lock screen wallpaper or add an email account to your device. Samsung Wants "Pink Gold" for its Phones Because Apple Has "Rose Gold"

Now it looks like there will be yet another Galaxy subsection, writes Kristijan Lucic for Android Headlines. In 2013, Apple introduced its first gold iPhone - the iPhone 5S - and shortly thereafter, Samsung announced a gold Galaxy S4, announcing the move in a suspiciously defensive blog post that explained how Samsung had released gold phones in the past. For now the Pink Gold variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will only be available in Korea. According to some rumors, .the Galaxy C is going to be the fourth low end smartphone of the company which will follow the Galaxy J, Galaxy E and Galaxy A series. Talking about the Galaxy C5 (SM-C5000), it sports a 5.2-inch display, and we expect it to be of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Indeed, there is nothing special about the colour, as it is not made of a precious metal. The folks over at PhotoRumors claim the South Korean handset maker plans to launch a new 1/1.7-inch CMOS camera sensor with an aperture as wi
