According to The Korea Herald, Samsung is known for increasing the display resolution on its flagship smartphone every year.
Electronics giant Samsung is reportedly planning to launch two new smartphones next year with a new feature that could dramatically shake up the slowing global market for such devices: a flexible screen that can bend or fold.
According to Bloomberg's source, the foldable devices are codenamed "Project Valley", and could be unveiled at next year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Creating better virtual reality experiences is also one of the major factors as to why Samsung is expected to adopt 4K resolution screens for the Galaxy S8. We have already seen how Samsung have used deliberately curved displays in devices such as the 2011 Nexus S, which featured a curved, 4.0-inch AMOLED panel, through to the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge and later, similar, models.
Apparently the company has patented a roll-able screen technology, and displayed a bendable phone at a recent tech conference.
Samsung has previously put out concept videos featuring bendable device screens, however it has never announced formalized plans for any such devices.
Samsung Galaxy S8 was rumored to be the first, fully foldable smartphone by Samsung when it introduced a rollable display making use of the company's OLED technology during the Display Week last month. Apple is expected to use an OLED display on an iPhone for the first time in 2017, constituting the biggest redesign of the iPhone in three years.
Today's report also suggests that Samsung will name its next Galaxy Note smartphone the Note 7, skipping the Note 6 in favor of more consistent branding with the Galaxy S7.
Responding to queries, a leading news network based in the U.S. confirmed the availability of Galaxy X in early 2017 with its possible launch during the Mobile World Congress. Unlike these early entries though, it's said that the Samsung phone will fold in half "easily", completely clamming into itself like a wallet.
