Monsoons are right around the corner and before you start planning a short trip to the mountains, bathing in the lush green of nature, or trying to share pictures on social media; please remind yourself that not all smartphones are water or splash resistant. One of the major flaws with smartphones, after their fragile displays, is indeed their moisture fighting capacity. But thanks to some thoughtful manufacturers there are some smartphones which have the ability to survive the elements.

The IP or Ingress Protection ratings are used to gauge and define the levels of sealing effectiveness against intrusion from dirt or moisture. In the IP rating, the first digit stands for resistance to dust while the second stands for water resistance. With the improved IP68 ratings, a device is not only water resistant but can be underwater for 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5 meters . Here's a list of smartphones which would help lessen your monsoon woes with their water resistant capacities.

Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+

Samsung's latest Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones have an improved IP68 rating making them resistant to water and dust. Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus

Apple is quick to glorify features which are 'new' for iPhones and thus, when it launched its iPhone 7 lineup, it described them as the first 'water-resistant'smartphones. CAT S60

Also the world's first rugged smartphone to feature an in-built thermal camera, the CAT S60 has an IP68 rating. Given that it is by construction a rugged smartphone, you needn't worry about it getting damaged by either accidental drops or unannounced rains.

Moto G4 Plus

Motorola has a lot of smartphones in its portfolio which boast water-resistant capabilities. The Moto G4 Plus doesn't have an IP rating, but it features water repellent nano coating which protects it from water damage to an extent. You can't submerge the Moto G4 Plus in water, but light drizzles and an accidental splash of water can do it no harm. Sony Xperia XZ Premium

One of the latest smartphones to boast water-resistant capabilities, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium has IP68 rating. It is not the first phone to come from Sony's portfolio to boast such capabilities. Moto M

Another Motorola phone to make it to the list is the Moto M. Similar to the G4, the Moto M doesn't have any IP rating and instead has a water repellant nano-coating to protect against light splash or rains. Although there is no certificate to subside your worries, the coating does help keep some of the rain-related worries at bay.

Moto G5, G5 Plus

One of the best smartphones in the sub-Rs 15,000 category, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus both get a water repellent nano-coating as seen on previous Moto phones. LG G6

Another flagship smartphone, the LG G6 gets an IP68 rating for protection against the water and dust. Sony Xperia XZs

With an IP65/68 rating, the Sony Xperia XZs is absolutely worth taking out for a splash.
