But thanks to some thoughtful manufacturers there are some smartphones which have the ability to survive the elements. The IP or Ingress Protection ratings are used to gauge and define the levels of sealing effectiveness against intrusion from dirt or moisture. In the IP rating, the first digit stands for resistance to dust while the second stands for water resistance. With th

Samsung's Notebook 9 Pro harbors a stowaway S Pen

To be fair, many convertibles already support stylus input, including options from HP, Lenovo and Dell, but Samsung's device offers more comprehensive and helpful tools. Like previous Samsung Notebooks, the 9 Pro also supports fast charging over USB Type-C using a compatible smartphone charger, although the company hasn't provided an estimate for how long it would take to fully power the 54Whr cell. You can also plug it into a portable battery pack to draw power on the go. Navigation Buttons on Samsung Galaxy S8 Can Be Changed with Pixel Ones

The Galaxy S8 marked the introduction of many new features on Samsung's lineup of flagship smartphones, including the virtual assistant Bixby and a display that doesn't leave room for much else on the front panel. Indeed, the Infinity Display on the Galaxy S8 allowed the South Korean smartphone maker to remove the physical home button from the front panel and replace hardware or capacitive navigation buttons with on-screen ones. The most prolific smartphones that use onboard navigation buttons are Google's Pixel devices, which offer stock Android experience and thus feature a design that can't be found on Samsung smartphones. Global Smartphone Sales Grow as Apple, Samsung Lose Share

Gartner's sales report for the first quarter of 2017 also shows that while Samsung and Apple remain the world's first- and second-largest smartphone brands, respectively, three Chinese phone makers are gaining ground. Gartner attributes that in part to the access that Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo have to expanding smartphone markets in regions close to China. Combined, Huawei (pictured above}, Oppo, and Vivo now hold 24 percent of the global smartphone market, an increase of 7 percentage points over the same period last year, Gartner said. Samsung's share now stands at 20.7 percent, down from 23.3 percent in the first quarter of 2016, while Apple holds 13.7 percent of the market, compared to 14.8 percent in Q1 of last year. Report claims Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 will be brought back to life in June

Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it is working to revive the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7. Again. As we're sure we don't need to remind you, last year's flagship Galaxy Note phone was released to plenty of acclaim from reviewers and users alike. Then, phones started exploding while being charged. After that, phones started exploding while in use. One Note 7 explosion set a man's Jeep on fire, while another burned down a family's house. Samsung was forced to recall the device, but the company resumed sales when it thought it had determined the cause of the fires. Of course, Samsung was wrong. Note 7 phones kept exploding, and the South Korean electronics giant had no choice but to recall it again and discontinue it completely. Now, like a little glass and metal phoenix, the Note 7 is set to rise from the ashes — and a report out of Asia offers new details surrounding the refurbished Galaxy Note 7's release. Here's why Amazon should build another smartphone

Rick Wilking | Reuters Mike George, VP Alexa, Echo and Appstore for Amazon, speaks during the LG press conference at CES in Las Vegas, January 4, 2017 Amazon could cut the cost of its smartphone, too, and sell an unlocked device that could be purchased direct on its store and that would work across U.S. and international carriers. Manufacturers like Motorola, Huawei, Alcatel and others all build good smartphones that can cost under $300. Anything more, and I think Amazon risks competing too closely with big hitters like Samsung and Apple. Yes, you can get Amazon's apps and services on other smartphone platforms, but a single device built around Amazon's services and Alexa, one that could provide on-demand voice access to the smart assistant, unlimited access to Amazon's music and video services, and with a low up-front cost, would be very appealing.
