Samsung phone catches fire in plane;DGCA summons company execs

In a news release, Indi-Go said some passengers on its flight 6E-054 from Singapore noticed smoke and smell in the cabin and alerted the cabin crew. "While landing at the Chennai airport at 7:45AM, the cabin crew detected smoke in a Samsung Note 2 handset kept in the overhead bin", a DGCA spokesperson told the publication. The passengers were deplaned after the aircraft landed normally at the Chennai International Airport.

Despite the similarities, the Journal reported that a Samsung spokesman said the issues were isolated and not related to the batteries.

Samsung officials have stated that the company is looking into the matter and that they will stay in touch with authorities during the investigation.

The regulators have asked the airline to submit the phone so that a probe can be initiated.

"This equipment (Samsung mobile) will be further examined by the departments", the airline said. As a rule of a Global recall Samsung should recall all phones, whether sold through official or unofficial channels as they pose threat to the well being of human life at this moment. "Passengers have also been advised not to stow them in their checked-in baggage", the ministry said, a day after USA regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a similar warning.

The move also comes two weeks after the watchdog banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note7 on board aircraft following a series of incidents of the smartphone's battery exploding in various countries.

Now we should note that the Galaxy Note 2 is a very old phone and very much removed from the Note 7, so obviously there is no relation. The company says it has already exchanged half of the Galaxy Note 7s sold in the USA that had been turned in through its voluntary recall program, Engadget said.

This news comes only a few days after the United States government officially got involved in the problem, formally issuing a recall for the 1 million affected devices in the country.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 (S820) Review

This year has been difficult for smartphones, which is a bit of a paradox when you consider just how much better things have gotten compared to last year. With Snapdragon 820, 650, 652, and 625 we've finally moved past the shadow of the Snapdragon 810, 808, and 617/615. While there were Android devices that shipped with the Exynos 7420, they were often paired with a modem that was not necessarily the most power efficient. Despite all of this, there seems to be a general disappointment with smartphones. People are increasingly finding it hard to justify phones like the HTC 10 or Galaxy S7 with competition from OnePlus, Xiaomi, and even Apple with their iPhone SE. In this context the Galaxy Note7 brings much of the flavor of the Galaxy S7 edge, but blends it with the S-Pen of the Note line and a few new features like the iris scanner. If you were paying attention to the industry with the launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5, it's very much more of the same rather than the m
