Huawei announced it has sold over 9 million Huawei P9 smartphones

Huawei is one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers on the planet, finding itself poised just behind Samsung and Apple when it comes to the number of handsets sold across the globe. As impressive as it is, the Huawei P9 from earlier this year is still an awesome option, and its popularity speaks for itself. Since launch, 9 million Huawei P9 units have been sold.Huawei P9

That's mostly thanks to its massive Chinese market and the demand for its smartphones there, though Huawei's efforts to push into the global market haven't been without reward. At an event in China earlier today, Huawei announced that its Huawei P9 smartphone has sold nine million handsets since the phone was unveiled in April of this year. That's up three million from September when the company announced the device had reached six million in sales, meaning it sold three million devices in just two months.

It shouldn't be surprising by any means that the Huawei P9 has sold well; it's a fantastic and very capable device. Its dual-camera system is capable of taking fantastic images, the design is nothing short of beautiful — especially in those recently announced red and blue options.

As Huawei puts a target on the #2 spot in the smartphone market, sales figures like this are only going to help the company achieve that goal. It wouldn't be shocking at all if Huawei was able to surpass 10 million Huawei P9 units sold by the end of 2016, especially with just over a month and a half to go.

That's a pretty great feat for a mid-range smartphone, so it will be interesting to see how the upcoming Huawei Mate 9 performs, given that Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 is no longer in the picture. There's a prime spot for Huawei to take advantage of the market that loves bigger phones but unfortunately, there's no stylus included with the Mate 9.

Of course, the P9 will face competition within its own family with the Mate 9 starting to release worldwide over the coming weeks, and eventually in the United States.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 (S820) Review

This year has been difficult for smartphones, which is a bit of a paradox when you consider just how much better things have gotten compared to last year. With Snapdragon 820, 650, 652, and 625 we've finally moved past the shadow of the Snapdragon 810, 808, and 617/615. While there were Android devices that shipped with the Exynos 7420, they were often paired with a modem that was not necessarily the most power efficient. Despite all of this, there seems to be a general disappointment with smartphones. People are increasingly finding it hard to justify phones like the HTC 10 or Galaxy S7 with competition from OnePlus, Xiaomi, and even Apple with their iPhone SE. In this context the Galaxy Note7 brings much of the flavor of the Galaxy S7 edge, but blends it with the S-Pen of the Note line and a few new features like the iris scanner. If you were paying attention to the industry with the launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5, it's very much more of the same rather than the m
