The Galaxy S8 could be Samsung's first Android flagship smartphone to feature stereo speakers, claims a new report.
Stereo speakers have been a standard feature on HTC flagship smartphones since a few years now, and Apple too switched to a stereo setup on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this year. To take on Apple, Samsung could reportedly use audio technology from Harman, which is recently acquired for nearly $8 billion. However, Samsung's automotive division Chief Park Jong-hwan mentioned during a press conference last month that he expects Harman audio technology to be fully implemented in the company's flagship Galaxy S series earliest by 2018. So, in our opinion, it seems more likely that the Galaxy S8 could only feature Harman-branding and not audio technology sourced from the company. HTC, which uses Boomsound branding for stereo speakers on its smartphones, has used Harman-branding in the past, for the One M8 Harman Kardon edition, released in the year 2014.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be available in two variants next year – one with a 6.2-inch display and the other with a 5.7-inch display. Both models are expected to sport a nearly bezel-less design, with a screen-to-body ratio of around 80%. Rumored specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 835/ Exynos 8895 SoC, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of onboard storage, optical fingerprint scanner, and improved cameras.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be made official in February next year, possibly at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. However, some reports also say that the smartphone will not be going on sale before April.
