It looks like everyone wants to jump into the smartphone market, but don't expect PC giant Dell to suddenly throw huge time and money into it, however.
Dell, the current No. 3 global PC manufacturer behind Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard, wants to focus on PCs, notebooks and consumer electronics - but isn't as enthusiastic about smartphones. Samsung and Apple lead the smartphone market, with Lenovo, Huawei, LG Electronics, and Xiaomi all showing off new smartphone models - but Dell isn't interested in joining those ranks.
"I think there are maybe only one or two companies who make a profit in the smartphone business today and there are quite a few companies that lose substantial sums of money in the smartphone business," Dell recently said during a financial roundtable conference. "So, no thank you! I do not want to be in the smartphone business."
Dell has also likely seen recent struggles Samsung has endured, with the No. 1 smartphone manufacturer trying to consolidate its lead in recent quarters.
