Samsung’s new smartwatch goes on sale October 2 starting at $300

Nearly a month after first going hands-on with Samsung's new smartwatch, we finally have a concrete price and release date. The Gear S2 will go on sale this Friday, October 2 starting at $299.99 for the low end model and $349.99 for leather-and-metal Classic. To recap, the Gear S2 is Samsung's first circular smartwatch, and its first to work on other Android devices. It uses Tizen rather than Android OS, but thanks to a complete overhaul that actually doesn't sound so bad this time around. We were tentatively optimistic after our hands-on, and Samsung promised "over 1,000" apps for watch around launch time, though time will tell if there's any serious developer traction. The watch will be available from a few different retailers at launch, including Amazon, Best Buy and Macy's (in addition to Samsung's own Web store). Units will be available at Best Buy retail locations on the same date and Macy's in NYC's Herald Squar

15 smartphones with 3,000mAh batteries or larger, made to last longer

Some smartphone releases this year have shown us that bigger batteries aren't always going to keep coming. Samsung opted for smaller power cells in its Galaxy S6 than the previous generation – in favour of faster charging. Apple's iPhone 6S Plus has 2,750mAh battery, making it smaller than last year's model. But some people want to avoid charging as long as possible. Some of us want bigger batteries. READ: Quick Charge 2.0: What is it and why do you need it? We've rounded up the big boys in the phone battery world to deliver the phones with truly huge batteries of 3,000mAh or more. Of course bigger batteries don't always mean longer use, with screen size and processor performance to be taken into account. But generally a larger battery will help. Just look at the larger Sony Xperia Z5 Premium or Samsung Galaxy S6 edge Plus that can deliver over a day's heavy use easily. So what smartphones can you buy now with a 3,000mAh battery or larger? Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Review: A beautiful, power user device

The Galaxy Note 5 is Samsung's latest iteration of their stylus-equipped smartphone, sitting alongside the Galaxy S6 Edge+ in the large-screened market. The Note 5 features an all new body that continues the design language Samsung established in the Galaxy S6, with several other features – including the 16-megapixel camera and Exynos 7420 SoC – also transitioning from the S6 to the Note 5. If you loved the metal and glass design of the Galaxy S6, you'll also love the design Samsung has used for the Note 5. Side by side the two phones look very similar, with a matte-finished metal edge separating two sleek, glossy glass panels on the front and back. Color is embedded into the glass in such a way that light reflects and diffracts in spectacular ways, giving the 'black sapphire' model a blue or black hue. Naturally the Galaxy Note 5 is a larger handset than the Galaxy S6 by virtue of its larger 5.7-inch display. This does make the phone harder to hold than its small

Judge Lucy Koh orders Samsung to pay Apple $548 million for patent infringement

"U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh of the Northern District of California has entered a $548 million judgment for Apple Inc. in its smartphone "trial of the century" against Samsung," Scott Graham reports for The Recorder. "Acting at the explicit direction of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Koh ordered Samsung Electronics Co. to pay $548,176,477 for 18 Samsung mobile devices that infringe five Apple design and utility patents," Graham reports. "The order appears to create a virtual lock—absent certiorari from the U.S. Supreme Court—that Apple will collect at least half of its landmark 2012 jury award. The decision came one day after the Federal Circuit endorsed a limited injunction on Samsung that loosens the eBay standard for competitor cases and will give Apple more bragging rights to smartphone innovation." MacDailyNews Take: Apple doesn't need any more "bragging rights." Apple invented and defined the mode

Court blocks US sales of old Samsung phones in Apple battle

WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal appeals court is blocking Samsung Electronics from selling some of its older smartphones in the U.S. in the latest twist to a long-running legal battle over how much of the devices' technology was copied from Apple's iPhone. The ruling issued Thursday by the U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington vindicates Apple, but might not hurt Samsung too much. That's because it applies to phones that are no longer popular. The most recent phone affected by the injunction, the Galaxy S3, was released in 2012 - long enough ago to be eclipsed by slicker smartphones in the rapidly evolving market for mobile technology. Samsung recently began selling the Galaxy S6, which was unaffected by Thursday's decision. Samsung could also revise the features covered by the injunction, something that the company has previously indicated it might do if prodded by the courts. Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. have been locked in a bitter feud

Galaxy Tab S2 review: A worthy counterpart for your smartphone

Samsung's second-gen tablet series knocks it out of the park again with solid performance and a lighter-than-Air chassis. It's been a relatively quiet year for Android tablets. Besides the Nexus 9 and Dell Venue 8—both of which are about a year old—not many Android tablets have made waves. That's why I'm glad that Samsung is doubling down on its Tab S series. The Galaxy Tab S2 is one of the best Android tablets, though it's only an incremental improvement over its predecessor. It offers solid performance, a stunning display, and comes in two very thin, very comfortable-to-hold sizes. As far as premium Android tablets go, Samsung still reigns supreme. Light as a feather Florence Ion The 9.7-inch Tab S2 is ridiculously light. I was in love with last year's 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S. It was a stylish tablet and, with its snap-on folio case, it quickly became my daily gadget companion. I'd typically tether it to whatever smartphone I was using at the ti
