Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs. Moto X Style (Pure Edition) â Same Screen Size, Different Internal Specs
The current Moto X is a smartphone on steroids, but its predecessors had average sizes. Motorola already built a phablet for Google, which resembled the Moto X 2014, but this model is smaller and has an improved design. Samsung has released its annual Note smartphone and the fifth generation doesn't look like any of the previous models.
Designs
The Note 5 is totally revamped. Good bye faux leather on the back, hello Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with reflective effects! The phone is available in four variants of colors and has a metal frame which unites the two sides and on the front, inside the home button, is integrated a fingerprint scanner. Also, the Note 5 comes with the popular S Pen stylus, which doesn't have an auto-eject function, as rumored. The physical dimensions are 153.2×76.1×7.6 mm and the total weight is 171grams.
The Moto X Style comes with a water repellant nano-coating, it measures 153.9×76.2×11.1 mm and it's 8grams heavier. The back is made of rubber silicone with diagonal lines, but you can get a more natural backing, and you can choose one of the 126 color combinations.
Displays
Both phones have screens that measure 5.7-inch and support QHD resolution, but the Note 5 has a Super AMOLED display that supports 518ppi, while the Moto X Style uses a LCD TFT display which offers two additional pixels per inch. The difference between AMOLED and LCD is that the former provides its own light, while the latter requires a backlight. Also, the colors are more vibrant on an AMOLED screen.
Hardware
The Note 5 offers a seamless performance with the octa core Exynos 7420 processor formed by two quad core processors clocked at 1.5GHz and 2.1GHz respectively. This configuration was introduced on the Galaxy S6, but Samsung increased the RAM capacity by 1GB and removed the microSD card, limiting the internal storage to 32 and 64GB.
The Moto X 2015 uses the same hardware components from the LG G4, featuring aQualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset which is powered by two weaker processors. They have two and four cores, respectively and they're backed by 3GB of RAM. The internal memory (which is available in variants of 16, 32 and 64GB) can be increased up to 128GB.
Cameras
Motorola increase the number of pixels for the back camera, but we must wait until the phone will be released, to make some tests with the 21MP shooter. The list of features includes dual-LED flash, phase detection autofocus, auto-HDR and f/2.0 aperture. The secondary camera is 5MP and it's accompanies by LED flash.
The Galaxy Note 5 has a main camera of 16MP with f/1.9 aperture, LED flash, OIS, HDR and lots of new features, while the front camera was upgraded from 3.7MP to 5MP.
Batteries
They have identical capacities: 3000mAh and can't be replaced. However, we'll wait to see the test results, to have an idea about the battery life of each phone. You should know that Samsung added wireless charging capabilities in the Note 5. At least the Moto X comes with quick charging technology, thanks to Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 feature.
Prices
The Moto X Style will be released in September and will be sold for the price of 400 dollars. The starting price for the Note is 700 dollars.
