Best Samsung Phones

Best overall Samsung Galaxy Note 8 See at Amazon See at Verizon See at AT&T See at T-Mobile See at Sprint From dual cameras and a Wacom-powered stylus to water resistance, wireless charging, a massive curved display and even a headphone jack, the Galaxy Note 8 packs just about everything you could possibly ask for in a modern flagship. At 1200 nits, its display is one of the brightest on the market, and it's hard to beat the combination of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset and a whopping 6GB of RAM. Bottom line: The Galaxy Note 8 is simply the best device Samsung has ever built. At least, until the Galaxy S9 shows its face. One more thing: Depending on where you buy it from, the Galaxy Note 8 nears $1000 outright. For all its compelling features, a thousand dollars is hard to swallow for any phone. Why the Galaxy Note 8 is the best Samsung packed everything and the kitchen sink into the Galaxy Note 8. For the absolute biggest and best that Samsung h

Samsung fires up production of second-gen 10-nm FinFET chips

by Wayne Manion — 10:30 AM on November 29, 2017 Samsung announced today that its S3 manufacturing line in Hwaseong, Korea, has started fabrication of SoCs on 10LPP, the company's second-generation 10-nm FinFET process technology. The electronics manufacturer says 10LPP allows for 10% higher performance or 15% lower power consumption compared to 10 LPE, its existing 10-nm node. Samsung says the second-generation process should lead to increased yields and reduced time in the transition from chip development to mass production. Samsung's S3 manufacturing line in Hwaseong, Korea According to the company, devices bearing SoCs built using the 10LPP process node will probably hit store shelves early next year. Samsung didn't elaborate on the nature of these SoCs, so they could be anything from in-house designs for smart watches to high-end smartphone SoCs built for the company's manufacturing partners. In addition to 10-nm production, the company expects it'll

The South Korean conglomerate said on Monday that its research arm — Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) — has successfully synthesised "graphene balls" that can boost its battery capacity by 45 per cent and increase charging speed by five times the existing standards.  Graphene has been touted in the global electronics industry as a "miracle material" given its strength, electrical conductivity and elasticit

10 Ways In Which Android Has Changed Our Digital Lives And The Way We Use Our Phones

It only seems like yesterday when I got my first Android smartphone, and my life was never the same. I'm sure you guys would remember your first Android smartphone too! Android has completely changed our lives, and we can hardly ignore Android devices anymore. Image courtesy: Pixabay Since its very inception into the market, Android has evolved to such great lengths, that it has made us alter the way we have used phones. In India, Android gained recognition around seven years back with Samsung's first Android flagship-the Galaxy S, running Android 2.1.  However, before this, we used our phones in a completely different way. We were a fan of Nokia Samsung's and Blackberry devices running on their custom operating systems, and while they were smart enough to do all the things a smartphone could, there weren't termed as the smartphones. And even with strong fan-following from these brands, people shifted to Android in a very short span of time.  Today, An

Samsung allegedly plans to make CES relevant again with new Galaxy S smartphones

What's This? Setting the tech agenda at CES. Image: Anadolu Agency/Getty Images In many ways, these days it seems the annual CES tradeshow in Las Vegas is where consumer tech goes to die. Vibrating smart jeans? Bizarre wearables? Temporary tattoo printers? Check, check, and check. All the biggest names like Apple, Microsoft, and Google have largely abandoned the event as a place for major product reveals in favor of their own press events.  Samsung, however, might be about to change all that. According to VentureBeat, the South Korea-based manufacturer is set to unveil the latest iteration in its line of Galaxy S smartphones at next year's CES in just a couple of months. That's right, this January might bring with it a sneak peek at both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Citing "someone briefed on the company's plans," the publication reports that the new phones will share the same Infinity curved Super AMOLED displays as previous models. Howeve

Samsung's best phones of the year are on sale for Black Friday

Getty Images DJ Koh, president of mobile communications business at Samsung, holds up the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone during a launch event for the new product, August 23, 2017. Samsung's best phones of the year, including the Galaxy Note 8, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, are all on sale for Black Friday. Amazon knocked $150 off of unlocked models of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, which are available for $575 and $675, respectively. Amazon is also selling Samsung's newest flagship device, the Galaxy Note 8, for $780. Best Buy also has similar discounts on all three models. The unlocked versions of Samsung's smartphones allow customers to pay full price for the phone and then use it on the carrier of their choice without having to sign a contract. U.S. wireless carriers also sell the phones at a discount if users sign up for a cellular plan. CNBC praised both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8 in our reviews of the phones earlier this year. Huawei's Mate 10 Pro is a high-end alternative to Samsung, Apple devices

The Mate 10 Pro is one of Huawei's top offerings — it is a solid, high-end phone with several very useful features. In terms of price, the Mate 10 Pro is considerably cheaper than its competitors, at least in a market like Singapore. Huawei has yet to announce a starting price or availability for the U.S. market. The device costs 1,098 Singapore dollars (about $811) for the 128GB storage model, while a special designer unit, with 256GB memory, is priced at S$2,298 ($1,699). For comparison, Samsung's Galaxy Note 8, unlocked, costs S$1,398, but it comes only with 64GB of internal memory. You'll need to add a microSD to increase your storage space. Meanwhile, the unlocked iPhone 8 Plus costs S$1,308 for the 64GB model and S$1,548 for the 256GB. The starting price for the iPhone X is S$1,648. But if you're in the market for a smartphone that has all the best features available, and price is not an issue, then devices from Samsung, Google and Apple are probably s

Samsung DeX will finally give life to the Linux smartphone

© Image: Samsung Remember when Canonical was doing everything they could to bring convergence between the Linux desktop and the Ubuntu Phone? They worked tirelessly to make it happen, only to fall short of that goal. This effort was preceded by Ubuntu Edge--a smartphone that, by itself, would bridge the mobile device and the desktop. That failed as well, but the intent was the same. For those that aren't familiar, the idea behind convergence is simple: Offer a single device that could serve as both a smartphone handset, and when connected to a monitor work as a standard desktop computer. The idea is quite brilliant and makes perfect sense. Especially when you remember how many people use a smartphone as their only means of either connecting to the world or productivity. With that number growing every year, the idea of convergence becomes even more important. Give them one device that could function in two very important ways. Unfortunately, the company that dreamed up the ide

Galaxy X foldable smartphone spotted on Samsung's official website

The rumors around Samsung's foldable smartphone are showing no signs of slowing down. But this time around making things official is none other than Samsung itself. The Galaxy X smartphone was spotted on Samsung's own website. The Galaxy X with model number SM-G888N0 was spotted in the support section of Samsung's Korean website. The listing was first spotted by LetsGoDigital. According to Forbes, the '888' model number has already been spotted before, but the 'N0' in the model number suggests that the company is working on a foldable Android smartphone. The smartphone (Galaxy X), is expected to launch in the South Korean market soon. However, the support page doesn't reveal much detail about the upcoming smartphone. The Galaxy X has been subjected to many leaks, including renders that show what the device could look like. To begin with, the smartphone recently received Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi Alliance certification. The smartphone is expected to c

Poll results: The smartphone edges out the PC

The latest flagships from Samsung and Huawei both feature methods to connect them to PC peripherals and use them as a PC. We asked our readers if they felt comfortable ditching the desktop and using their smartphone for all their computing needs.  Modern flagship phones are becoming more powerful with each successive generation, and are now more than capable of taking care of most people's daily computing needs such as web browsing, multimedia and word processing. Now that the best of them can also connect to your keyboard and desktop monitor, it seems like they are even closer to usurping the traditional home PC. Samsung uses its DeX dock to connect the S8, S8+ or Note 8 to PC peripherals, and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro doesn't even need a dock to perform quite effectively as a desktop. We asked you whether you would use your smartphone as your main computer and the results surprised us. A divisive topic. / © AndroidPIT A narrow majority use their smartphone as their m

Samsung’s W2018 Flip Phone Will Hit China December 1

Samsung will be trotting out its flagship-tier flip phone, the W2018, for the Chinese market on December 1, according to what appears to be leaked marketing copy. The poster is full of posh-looking individuals, and shows off Samsung's Android flip phone lineup thus far in the bottom left corner. Although the poster is centered around the W2018 and photos of it seemingly leaked not long ago, Samsung has opted to leave the new device's image out of the poster, opting to have a simple question mark stand in for it in the lineup at the bottom left of the poster. A major OEM launching a flip phone in 2018 may come as a shock to people in some markets, but the trend is alive and well enough in China to warrant Samsung dropping a phone mostly on level with the Galaxy S8 in the country. The W2018 boasts 6GB of RAM, alongside 64GB of internal storage, with the same powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 that drives today's major flagship devices sitting at the heart of the p

Deal: Samsung HW-J250 2-Channel Soundbar for $80 – Today Only

B&H Photo has put the Samsung HW-J250 2-channel Soundbar on sale today for just $79.99. That is good for $40 off of its regular price, or about 33% off. This soundbar from Samsung is not its highest-end soundbar, and it does not support Dolby Atmos. If you are wanting a Dolby Atmos soundbar from Samsung, stay tuned for their pre-Black Friday sale which starts on Sunday, November 19th. Apple’s iPhone X destroys Android’s very best smartphones; makes Samsung Galaxy Note 8 seem obsolete

"The Galaxy Note 8 is an incredible phone. Back when I reviewed it for PCWorld I gave it the highest possible score and raved about its display, still the greatest I've seen in Android phone," Michael Simon writes for Macworld. "The dual camera delivered impressive portraits and lush landscapes, and the battery powered through the busiest of days. In short, it was the best phone I had ever used and I thought it would be a long while before anything topped it." "I was wrong. Apple's iPhone X not only beats the Note 8, it practically makes it seem obsolete," Simon writes. "I've tested a wide array of Android handsets over the past 12 months, and I can confidently say that none are in the same league as Apple's newest handset." "Quite frankly, it's hard to even describe how much better iPhone X is without using it for a stretch of time, and most Android fans will never get that chance. That's a shame. It wasn'

Xiaomi catches up with Samsung to become India’s top smartphone vendor in Q3 2017: IDC

A total of 39 million smartphones were shipped to India in Q3 2017, which is a new record with substantial 40% Quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth and a healthy 21% Year-on-year (YoY) growth, according to the latest International Data Corporation's (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. India smartphone shipments accounted for 10% of the global smartphone shipments for the first time ever in a quarter. Xiaomi already said that it has shipped 9.2 million phones in the quarter, now IDC reveals that it has 23.5% market share for the quarter, same as Samsung. Xiaomi's sales through its website continued its growth and helped boost the share of overall online channel from 32% to 37% compared to a year ago, said IDC. Main reason for increase in sales for Xiaomi is aggressive pricing. The company has also made offline expansion through preferred partner program and Mi stores to double its shipments from the last quarter. Samsung Galaxy J2, Galaxy J7 Nxt, and Galaxy J7 Max were

Report: Samsung to Lose Market Share in Chinese Smartphone Market in Q4 2017

The Chinese smartphone market is currently led by Huawei, followed by Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Apple. Samsung is not in the top five smartphone manufacturers in the market, as the company has been struggling for a while in the country. Chinese OEMs like Oppo and Vivo have outperformed Samsung in offline retail sales, while Xiaomi retains its dominance in online flash sales, squeezing out Samsung from both ends. What makes the situation worse is that in the premium price segment, consumers in China prefer smartphones released by Huawei or Apple instead of Samsung's flagships like the Galaxy S8. In Q3, Samsung ranked ninth in China, the world's largest smartphone market, according to a report by the research firm. It had 2% share, which was significantly behind Huawei's market share as the leader, and Apple's market share in fifth position. Huawei and Apple are the two major global competitors for Samsung, and both of them are ahead of the com

Our smartphone predictions for 2018

Some thoughts on where it's all going. We're not yet done with 2017, but we're about to wrap up the last few big phone launches of the year. So, with a mostly complete picture of the current year in smartphones, it's time to look ahead to the next generation. Here's what I think we'll see out of Android, and the smartphone world in general, in the next twelve months. Basically everything will be 18:9 As taller, less bezelly panels become more attainable to makers of mid-tier phones, expect the Android landscape to become increasingly tall in the coming year, with ever slimmer borders. The look that Xiaomi and Samsung pioneered will become the new standard. That, in turn, will push everyone in the high-end to differentiate in other ways. Big batteries in more things We're already seeing this in the phones of late 2017 — devices like the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, HTC U11+ and BlackBerry Motion — but as phones get taller and battery experts figure out h

Best Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Cases

Like the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy Note 8 is a beautiful piece of technology featuring an aluminium chassis sandwiched by Gorilla Glass panels at the front and rear. That also makes the Note 8 as fragile as the Galaxy S8 and other smartphones which feature a glass back. After all, glass is glass and it will crack when dropped. This means that using a case on the Galaxy Note 8 is almost a compulsion. Unless of course, you don't mind paying for an expensive screen or rear glass panel replacement. Since the Galaxy Note 8 was among the most anticipated smartphones to be released this year, you will find plenty of cases for it as well. These cases come in a variety of design and offer different levels of protection. If you are confused as to which case you should buy for your Galaxy Note 8, have a look below for some of our recommendations. Spigen Air Skin If you want a minimalistic case that offers more than adequate level of protection to your Note 8, Spigen's Air S

Samsung Galaxy S9 will not feature an under display fingerprint sensor: Report

Samsung has reportedly dropped the under display fingerprint sensor from the final specifications of the Galaxy S9. The company will instead place the fingerprint sensor at the back like existing models. Samsung has decided to drop the under display fingerprint sensor from its 2018 flagship Galaxy S9 smartphone. According to The Korea Herald, Samsung will instead place the fingerprint sensor at the back of the device on both the S9 and S9 Plus. The approach will be similar to existing flagships Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8. This new report comes just days after a Samsung patent suggested that the Galaxy S9 will include a front-facing fingerprint sensor embedded under the display. Samsung is said to have finalised the specifications for the Galaxy S9 duo and the pilot production reportedly began this October. The mass production of the smartphone is expected to begin in December. The new report says Samsung tried to embed a fingerprint sensor under the di

Razer Phone review: How to build a smartphone for gamers

Aside from the occasional tiny Chinese manufacturer, you really don't see all that many new competitors in the smartphone space these days. There's a couple of obvious reasons for that, of course, not least of which is the fact that Apple and Samsung have swallowed up so much market share it's virtually impossible to actually compete against them. Nevertheless, Razer — the company that made its name a decade ago with flashy gaming keyboards, headsets, and other gear — now has a smartphone of its very own. If that sounds crazy it's because it is, but the even crazier thing is that this huge new venture just might work. Set to be released on November 17th, the Razer Phone is very clearly a product of Razer's early 2017 purchase of startup smartphone maker Nextbit. It looks and feels almost identical to the Nextbit Robin, though with a few small tweaks to its overall design and some much beefier hardware. As you might expect, it's being positioned as the ultima

Samsung loses top smartphone vendor spot to Apple in US

There has been a tug-of-war between Samsung and Apple for the top US smartphone vendor spot for some time. Not only are the companies closely matched in terms of sales figures, they tend to release their major products in different quarters: Apple launching its new iPhones in the latter half of the year, and Samsung releasing its Galaxy S flagships during the first. This leads to peaks and troughs for both companies, which regularly sees them cross over in terms of US smartphone shipments. Despite Samsung remaining the top dog in the global smartphone market in Q3 2017, research company Strategy Analytics suggests that Apple has once again regained the top spot position for the US. Editor's Pick US Supreme Court will not hear Samsung's appeal in patent loss to Apple It appears that the long and bloody court battle between Samsung and Apple hit a wall today when the US Supreme Court refused to hear Samsung's appeal of a ruling that awarded Apple $120 mil

Samsung Bashes an Entire Decade of iPhones in This Entertaining Galaxy Ad

In the early years of Samsung smartphones, the brand built a whole business around dissing Apple. And they're still at it, rolling out a new 60-second spot today called "Growing Up," which stars a longtime Apple fan who's been buying iPhones for years—only to be regularly disappointed, mostly by his girlfriend's Samsung phones. We begin in 2007, as our hero, Erik, buys the first-generation iPhone. By 2010, he's having storage issues. Then, in 2013, Samsung makes its first appearance, as Erik meets his girlfriend Lauren at college—and the screen size and stylus with her Galaxy Note 3 put his iPhone 5 to shame. Later, Lauren's Samsung phone survives a dip in a lake, while Erik's iPhone gets a subsequent, desperate dip in a bowl of rice. Then, Lauren's later-model Samsung phone charges wirelessly, while Erik—whose iPhone now lacks a headphone jack—has to rig up a comical set of wires to charge it and listen through headphones at the same tim

Samsung's new advert absolutely savages Apple's iPhone

Samsung's latest advert for its Galaxy series may be one of the best promos we've seen for a while, chiefly because it absolutely savages its main rival. The clip, which dropped online yesterday, has already amassed over 1 million views, and pokes fun at the new iPhone X and people's blind loyalty to Apple. In the clip, we see a young man get new iPhones over the years, with the models portrayed as consistently inferior to their Samsung rivals before he eventually caves in and gets a Galaxy. Advertisement - Continue Reading Below At the end of the clip, the new Samsung convert walks past a queue of people waiting to get their hands on the iPhone X, one man sporting a ridiculous notch-shaped haircut. The notch mimics the small indent on the iPhone's new edge-to-edge screen, which has received some criticism for breaking up the rectangular display. Fair play, Samsung. Fair play. After all, we guess they could use some good publicity following the y
