Samsung Officially Announces the Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition for Rio 2016

Samsung is an official partner of Rio 2016 Olympics and the company intends to launch a smartphone to celebrate this event. Rumors regarding the smartphone have been surfacing for quite some time now and today, Samsung has finally announced the device officially. The Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition will go on sale on July 18.

Samsung's involvement in the Olympic Games started as early as 1988 when the company was a local sponsor of the Seoul Olympic Games. Since then, Samsung has been involved in various sports competitions and will continue to be a sponsor even during Tokyo 2020.

In order to celebrate the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Samsung finally announced the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition. The company intends to deliver 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition, together with Gear IconX to all Rio 2016 Olympians.

The Olympic Edition will feature the official colors of Rio 2016

The smartphone comes with a custom colorway pattern that includes the five official colors of the Olympic Rings. In addition, the colors are found on the device's home and lock screens, as well as on the message, dial, contacts screens and notification bar. As expected, the phone comes with Rio 2016 Olympic Games themed wallpapers.

Olympians won't be the only ones to get access to the special edition, Samsung will be releasing 2,016 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition smartphones to the markets in Brazil, the US, China, Germany and Korea. The smartphone will go on sale on July 18, 2016.

The specs on the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition are the same as on the Galaxy S7 Edge. Namely, the phone comes with a 5.5-inch curved Super AMOLED QHD display, with Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It will also have a 3600mAh battery and 12MP rear camera.
