As its been a tradition for sometime now, Samsung is holding its unpacked event a day ahead of official start to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung's 'The Next Galaxy' event is happening on February 21 at 19 CET which translates to 11.30 PM IST. Samsung has put a teaser video which shows a cube with lighted edges to form No. 7 clearly revealing the seventh S-series galaxy in line to launch. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is likely to retain the design of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge but will come with microSD card slot and USB Type-C port. Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge: possible press renders revealed

The hype train for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge arguably began the minute the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge launched last March. Unlike most phones however, this was as much a part of "the next big thing" as it was a reaction to some of the polarizing decisions Samsung made in its pair of flagship smartphone products: Gone was the user-replaceable battery, and gone was the support for microSD, two tenants that the Korean OEM had been a champion for over the years and whose previous design language arguably substantiated the removable plastic rear panel. With respect to this year's offerings, the leaks began last month, and have suggested numerous bits of information, some of which seems to be conflicting. It is basically "known" there will be a Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, with less certainty about a Galaxy S7+ and Galaxy S7 Edge+. The picture is further complicated by claims the S7 Edge+ has been canceled, that the S7 Edge will be larger than the S7, th

Samsung's next Galaxy phone just leaked

The first image of Samsung's next major smartphone, the Galaxy S7, has leaked. Evan Blass, who has a nearly perfect record leaking new smartphones before they come out, shared the following render of the Galaxy S7 on VentureBeat: Evan Blass/VentureBeat As expected, the Galaxy S7 will come in two models, one with a standard flat screen and one with a curved screen. They look nearly identical to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge phones that launched almost a year ago: AP But Blass reports that the Galaxy S7 will have some other upgrades like water resistance, an improved camera, a memory card slot, and a larger battery. The Wall Street Journal reported in December that Samsung may also include a pressure-sensitive screen, just like the one on the iPhone 6s. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S7 at an event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the week of February 21. Read the original article on Tech Insider. Android Headliner: Does Samsung Still Make Too Many Phones?

Each year, it seems there is an even wider variety of smartphones for consumers to choose from. This is because, there are too many smartphones to choose from. As well as the old guard smartphone manufacturers who grace us with their latest generation handsets each year, there are always a number of new additions or 'convert to Android' manufacturers who come through with their new offerings. While this is a good thing from the consumer perspective, as choice is good, it can get a little confusing at times. And especially when it comes to Samsung. There is no arguing with the fact that Samsung is probably the manufacturer who releases the greatest variety of handsets each year. After all, they are the biggest Android smartphone manufacturer and part of their 'bread and butter' sales is due to the variance on offer. Regardless of your budget, expectations, regional needs, Samsung has a phone waiting for you to buy. In fact, in November, they were said to be

The Ideal Smartphone for 2016

In 2015 I saw a ton of great smartphones hit the market; so many, in fact, that it's getting harder to pick something you will regret. And yet whenever I receive a new smartphone to review, I feel like I'm always able to find a fault or major tradeoff that's been made. I see phones with really nice bodies and powerful hardware that fall behind on battery life. I see great cameras in phones with terrible camera apps. I see stock Android in phones with no expandable storage. I see big batteries in phones with mediocre processors. There have been some smartphones that have come close to exactly what I want in a daily driver – the Google Nexus 6P, Apple iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S6 are all great examples – but I'm yet to see the elusive 'perfect' device; the phone with no compromises in hardware or software. And after everything I've seen over the past year, and considering what tech we can expect in 2016, I truly believe it's possible for a company t

LG G5 To Battle Samsung Galaxy S7 At MWC 2015?

The approaching Mobile World Congress 2016 will soon be revealing some of the most talked about smartphones as they keep us on the edge of our seats with Korean technologies. To give you a taste of what will come in the upcoming mega event, we take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5. The Mobile World Congress will give us a taste of the next generation of smartphones to come this year, but stakes could get bigger as Samsung and LG might compete at the much-anticipated event. It's worth pointing out that Samsung and LG are both famous South Korean based technology companies. However, when it comes to creating a great smartphone, there might be only one clear winner. The competition between Samsung and LG might be aggressive than any other competition because of their origins and there's really no telling how the results will come out once we reveal their impressive features. According to Phandroid, LG G5 will have a 5.3-inch Quad HD display that will run on a

Samsung Developing Virtual Reality Studio After Releasing Gear VR

Samsung released its very first commercial virtual reality headset last November, the Gear VR, although a developer's edition has been available since December of 2014. The device has received mostly positive reviews, although some note that it proves that virtual reality still has a long way to go. Wearable gave Samsung's virtual reality headset four stars. "It's immersive, sure, and that's the buzzword but you won't just be immersed by the images and audio, you'll feel like you're really there. If you find yourself at the edge of a rock in ustwo's Gear VR game Land's End, you'll get a bit of vertigo, it's that powerful. In short, it's magic." The Gear VR has received mostly good reviews, although many notice that it some limitations. The new process delivers up to 15 percent higher speed and 15 percent less power consumption over the predecessor. Samsung, instead, opted for its own Exynos chip which worked well with the smartphone and introduced the company as a major player in the chip business. This is the first time that the South Korean device maker would also be manufacturing its rivals' chip, specifically the Snapdragon 820 that is used in smartphones now

India is the new China when it comes to smartphones

Last Modified: Thu, Jan 21 2016. 09 37 AM IST India is becoming profoundly important both for smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung and for Web titans like Amazon, Facebook and Netflix New York: In the global fight for our pockets and purses, India is the new China. The incredible growth run for smartphones in China, the world's biggest market, is over. Sales of new smartphones in China are barely budging, and fierce competition is driving down prices. Sure, some of the smartphone stall is because of economic hiccups in China, but the country is also tapped out of first-time smartphone buyers. The double whammy has propelled the world's biggest tech companies to set their sights on India for the next smartphone land rush. Smartphone sales remain relatively small in India, but the opportunity is huge. India has nearly the same size population as China, but fewer than one in five people in the country use the Internet. Smartphone unit sales in India rose 44% in the secon

Galaxy S7 rumors: Learn more about the possible features of the upcoming smartphone

The Galaxy S7's 3D Touch feature is expected to function similarly to the one found in the iPhone 6S, so it should not be all that foreign to smartphone users. The latest rumors also suggest that the Galaxy S7 could have a new feature that is similar to the Live Photos offering seen in some Apple phones. According to a source spoken to by Android Geeks, the new feature is still in development, although it could be featured in the Galaxy S7 right from day one. If the new feature is still no

Court bans Samsung from selling older smartphones you can't get anymore

Those devices now banned from sale in the US include the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Galaxy S3, and Stratosphere. Samsung Gets European Approval for Enbrel Copy

Jan. 16, 2016 9:00 p.m. ET SEOUL—Samsung Group said it has won approval from regulators to sell a near-replica of the blockbuster rheumatoid arthritis drug Enbrel in Europe, marking an early milestone for South Korea's biggest conglomerate in the nascent market for so-called biosimilar drugs. The approval comes as Samsung SSNHZ 0.00 % Bioepis Co., the conglomerate's drug development arm, is preparing a public listing on the Nasdaq Stock Market. NDAQ -1.74 % Samsung's third-generation heir apparent Lee Jae-yong has looked to the biologic drug industry as a future growth engine amid slowing profit growth at its lucrative flagship company, smartphone maker Samsung Electronics Co. Biosimilars are near-replicas of biologic drugs that are akin to the generic versions of chemical dru

Samsung to Build Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC

Samsung will use its second-generation FinFET process to make Qualcomm's mobile chip, though it's unclear if Samsung will use it in its own devices. Samsung got Qualcomm's 2015 off on a bad note last year when the company rejected Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor for its new Galaxy S6 smartphone, reportedly over heat issues. Now Samsung's chip manufacturing business will be building Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 820 chip.Samsung Electronics officials on Jan. 14 announced the second generation of its 14-nanometer FinFET manufacturing process technology, which the company will use for its Exynos 8 Octa processor and other foundry customers. Among those other customers is Qualcomm and its Snapdragon 820 ARM-based system-on-a-chip (SoC), which company officials unveiled in November 2015. The processor is expected to begin appearing in premium smartphones starting in the first half of this year.Qualcomm, the world's largest mobile chip maker, in the past has h

Samsung Will Help Qualcomm Produce Its Next-Gen Snapdragon 820 Chip

When it's not churning out smartphones and giant tablets and uh, giant container ships, the company also does healthy business manufacturing microprocessors. It does such a good job, in fact, that chip-making rival Qualcomm will be using Samsung's foundaries for its next big thing. The Snapdragon 820 was announced late last year. It's a chip you're going to be seeing a lot of in higher-end Android handsets over the next year or two, and it brings some good tricks to the table, notably 40 percent better graphics, a faster integrated modem, and better battery life. A large part of achieving all that is manufacturing on a better, smaller 14nm process. Building devices on a 14nm process isn't something that Qualcomm or its traditional manufacturing partner TSMC can do, so the Snapdragon 820 chips are being made by Samsung. Qualcomm Wants Samsung, Apple to Turn Over Documents

The chip maker is asking a U.S. court to order seven tech vendors to turn over evidence they gave South Korean regulators probing antitrust charges. Qualcomm for more than a year has been the target of investigations in several countries over its licensing practices, and now the chip maker reportedly is pushing back at some of the tech vendors officials believe helped spark a probe in South Korea. The company is asking a federal court to force seven vendors to produce any documentation they may have provided to South Korean antitrust regulators in connection with the investigation. The request highlights the tangled relationships between some of the players. For example, both Samsung Electronics and manufacturers that make Apple products are rivals, but at the same time, they also are key customers of Qualcomm. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung and the Apple manufacturers accounted for more than 10 percent of Qualcomm's revenues in the most recent fiscal year.In all,

Samsung and Microsoft renew partnership with a focus on IoT; announce Galaxy TabPro S with Windows 10

Samsung and Microsoft's partnership in the tech world is nothing new indeed. But today, Samsung is clearly known more for its worldwide Android smartphone market share than anything else. So Microsoft renewing its partnership with Samsung seemed more like a give and take situation when it was announced at CES 2016, where Samsung benefits from Windows 10 IoT core services, while Microsoft benefits in the form of big brand coming under its fold, in the form of the just announced Surface-like Samsung Galaxy TabPro S tablet powered by Windows 10. Microsoft recently celebrated Windows 10 running on more than 200 million computers worldwide. At CES this year there were a number of launches in terms of computing systems that came from Acer, Alcatel, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and many more. But there's another area to be explored and that is IoT or the Internet of Things. This year's CES clearly focussed on two core areas, Virtual Reality (VR) and IoT and there were plenty o

Samsung's Galaxy S7 to copy iPhone 6s' biggest feature

While Samsung is searching for a radical new smartphone form factor that could capture the consumer's imagination away from the iPhone, Samsung's new mobile division president noted earlier this month that 2016 would be a tough year. Anonymous sources told the Wall Street Journal that there will be two editions of the phone - one with a flat screen, and a premium version with a curved-screen. In another move aimed towards ensuring that its devices remain equipped with the latest in tech (read that "in sync with Apple"), Samsung Inc. may introduce 3-D touch to its range of smartphones, starting with the company's next flagship phone, the Galaxy S7. The features that are expected to give the Galaxy S7 a boost in the market include faster Snapdragon 820 processor, which would mark a dramatic improvement over other Galaxy phones. According to CNET, the Galaxy S7 is rumored to also bring back the microSD card slot and launch at least 10 percent cheaper than

8 Best Samsung Galaxy S7 Concepts

Ad Ad Even the latest iPhone cannot compete with the beauty of the Samsung Galaxy Edge smartphone series. So Samsung does not need to redesign its next big handset from the ground up. With this is mind, we've taken care to list only the most realistic Samsung Galaxy S7 concepts on the internet, the ones that have high chances of looking like the final device when it is launched. If Samsung announces major new features and advanced components for its upcoming S7 device, certain changes would be required. But they'll be very minor. As for the release date, the phone is coming in February next month. Without further ado, let's take a peek at the likely designs based on specs. Published just this week by uSwitch, the images above are apparently based on blueprints given by Samsung to accessory manufacturers. The sketches are of the flat-screen Galaxy S7 and not the Edge variant that's expected to be unveiled along with it next month before the
